Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 7.00a.m and I was tilling my land ready for planting season ahead.I heard a notification message from my phone upon checking it was bearing the good bews of the promised transfer from Givedirectly.I was so happy and I immediately informed my husband who was equally excited and he requested me to go and withdraw the funds later in the day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life obtaining the heifer.Although it hasn't produced milk,we are hopeful of milking in a few months.Buying of milk has been so expensive and at times we could go for a couple of days without taking strong tea.I thank Givedirectly for the great support that has made my life and that of my family affordable and enjoyable.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving the first transfer, we were excited that we would finally initialize the plans we had discussed with my husband. With Kshs.35,000 we bought a heifer which is just about to calf in few weeks time.I am so excited since this means a lot to my family. For the longest time, we had been depending on mother -in-law to share with us one litre of milk which wasn't adequate for my six family members and so at times we would have to buy from neighbours which was financially strenuous. With Ksh.5,000 we bought two sacks of maize which will sustain us for sometime and spent the remaining amount to buy clothes for my entire family members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mean a better house for my family. I intend to use the KES 15000 of the first transfer to renovate and expand my house because it cannot host us comfortably. I plan also to use KES 5000 of the transfer to finish the kitchen that I had started to construct. I intend to use KES 30000 to buy a dairy cow so that it can provide milk for my family and children and also use some amount to buy more maize for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon because I have provided food for my family. I normally go and do jobs when I have been called to and getting that money and buying food for my family is satisfying.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We have not been financially well for sometime now. My husband had an accident and the little amount that I got from my jobs wa used to treat him. He was bedridden for three months and I was the only provider. Feeding my family and taking care of his medical needs has been challenging.
