How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that I now have a new and bigger house for the family. I never thought I could afford to build a new house for my family not until we received the GiveDirectly transfers. We have been able to bring this house to its completion and even bought furniture and other household goods. The house that we built is a three roomed timber house that is enough to give us comfort and decency as a family as well. We also have a dairy cow that will give us milk in the very near future. This will bring to an end the buying of milk that we have been going doing and enable us save some more money that can be channeled into other meaningful investments for the family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly supported those in dire need. It was hard to believe at first that the cash was free and unconditional. When we received the money we were so happy and chose whatever we wanted to do with the money. I did not see anything bad about GiveDirectly and their operations.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer to buy a water tank worth KES 22000. Going to the river to fetch water on a daily basis had been so tiring and stressing for me and my children. Getting this water tank has brought this struggle to an end. My children and I are now happy that we can harvest water and avoid the stress of having to travel for long distance in search for the same. I also used KES 15000 to buy a dairy cow. The dairy cow shall help me in the near future when it starts producing milk. It will bring to an end the seemingly endless buying of milk from the neighborhood to feed the family. By calfing, the dairy cow shall have added us the number of assets that we own as a family and which shall help us to meet any financial emergencies.
