Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
At the moment when we received our transfer from GiveDirectly, I was really grateful and happy that the promise I was given was finally landing in our accounts. We had been eager to see ourselves progress like other villages who received the transfer a bit earlier. Plans were ready and all we needed was the money which enabled us implement all what we had conceived.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the ability to purchase a cow. This to us became a great solution to any problems we had. We are no longer buying milk but instead we are selling which outcome has been sorting most of the household bills.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the transfer fro GiveDirectly, I decided to spent the first 40000 KES on buying livestock. A cow was a priority since we had been buying ilk for quite sometimes and we needed to be milking from our own cow to reduce the expenses. We also considered buying a donkey which is the chief means of transportation in our village. Fetching water fro the dams which are way to far from home has not been that easy but with the donkey we are now doing it with a lot of ease. We also spent some money on foodstuff and also clothing for our children and finally managed to put some in our saving account t serve as contingencies.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
After receiving this money I will spend $180 and $60 to buy a dairy cow and a dairy goat respectively. Being an ASAL area, food is hard to come by thus milk and tea become a substitute for maize. When our children come home from school during lunch hour, they had better take a cup of tea than go back to school in empty stomachs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a casual labourer by day and a watchman by night at a local primary school. I love this job because it pays for my family's daily bread and pays fees for some of my children –which makes me happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest worry is a possibility of my children suffering from malnutrition. This is because they have often slept hungry and sometimes on an unbalanced diet. Until recently, rains had gone for a long time and there's no food on the farm nor our stores for them to have a complete meal.
