Our new goal is to build another sleeping house for our son. This was our initial plan before we got the second transfer but unfortunately, we had to spend the money that was meant for the plan in treating our boy who had a heart problem. We want to build him another house because the one that he has at the moment is old, grass-thatched, and small in size. We thus want to build him one that is roofed with iron sheets and spacious. We were not able to do this before because we did not have the money. I usually engage in the business of buying and selling milk while my husband is a cobbler. The little money that we get has most of it been going to the payment of school fees for our four children. We have small self-help groups that we have joined that usually do merry-go-round contributions. They also usually loan the saved money to the members of the group. We thus usually borrow loans from them to use in making the payment of the school fees.

GiveDirectly did well because they enrolled everyone in the village. No one was left out and hence everyone got the transfer. The people were able to upgrade their lives especially the neediest in the village. I would like to hence urge them to continue with the good work.

We spent the second transfer on paying school fees for our two children who are in secondary school. We paid KES 10000 for each and we managed to clear their school fees for the whole term. We are glad that we were able to do so because they have not been sent home and hence they have had time to concentrate on their studies. We also spent another KES 5000 on treating our child who had a heart problem. The national health insurance scheme helped us in settling some of the bills. We are glad that our son got well and he has been able to return back to school. We also bought two bags of maize for our consumption at a total cost of KES 7200. We had guests visiting our household to check on our son after he was discharged. The remaining amount of money hence helped us in buying foodstuffs such as sugar for preparing tea for the guests and food for our consumption. I was on my way to our merry-go-round group when I received a message notification on my phone. Upon checking it, I became so happy and immediately prayed to thank God for the blessing that had just come in despite being at the road. This money gave me hope that I would soon become a dairy cow owner and I will forever remain grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling me to achieve this.

I am the happiest person ever since I received the transfer since I am a proud owner of a dairy cow and I have also been able to pay school fees for my children. Due to this, I can concentrate on other projects since I know that they will not be sent back home anytime soon and they will be able to concentrate on their studies. In addition, I will be using the income from the sale of milk to pay their school fees and to meet some of our basic needs when it calves.

Buying milk has been my norm and I usually spend KES 50 daily on them. As a businesswoman who buys milk from farmers in the neighborhood and sells them at our nearest market, I rarely earn up to KES 200 as profits in a day. This is usually not enough to meet our basic needs and having a dairy cow to supplement my source of income had been my goal that I had not achieved until recently when I received the transfer since I was able to spend KES 30000 from it to acquire one and I am happy for this step that I have made. Also, I spent KES 10000 to pay school fees for my son who had been sent back home, KES 8000 on two sacks of maize and other foodstuffs for my family, and KES 6000 on clothes for my children.
