How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because we no live in a good house. The previous one was old and not in good shape. Also, my children nowadays have enough milk for consumption unlike before. This is because I now own two dairy cows hence an increase in my milk production.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by helping everyone in our village without any discrimination and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I settled on buying a dairy cow as a remembrance of GiveDirectly using my second transfer. Also, I spent some amount to build a decent kitchen for my family. The one we had was old and it was always raining inside. Due to this, I had to always make our dinner very early during the rainy seasons and this always made us to eat cold food. I spent the remaining amount to buy food and enough seats for my family as I did not have any.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have built a better and spacious house for my family. we used to live in a small grass-thatched which was leaking from inside. I depend on small scale farming to earn a small income to meet my daily expenses. I did not have any other source of income to enable me to save to build a better house. We used to live in a small house. I have grown up children and in our culture its a taboo to sleep in one house. My children could spend nights at a neighbors house which was so risky because of movement at night. During the rainy season, cooking was a big problem because the house was leaking and lighting fire could take much time. Whenever I had family meetings I used to shy off to welcome inside the house because there was no space to accommodate them. Currently, I have a decent house, my children are no longer spending nights at the neighbors like before. I also don't feel shy to welcome visitors to my house because I have a nice home. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our standard of living.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. I remember it was very early in the morning when I heard a message from my phone, When I checked it I felt so happy because it was confirming that I have received a sum of 55000 KES from GiveDirectly. I immediately inform my spouse and children and they were all happy. I knew from that point that I will be able to build a better and spacious house for my family.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer to built a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small grass-thatched house that was leaking from the inside. I also used part of the money to buy clothes, wire for fencing my compound and the rest of the money I used it to buy food for the family. because we had nothing left in store.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The house I live in is small for a family of 6 members. It is only one room and too add to that it is grass thatched. My first plan will therefore be to build another house with an iron roof and two rooms. The current one will just serve as a kitchen.I will then embark on expanding dairy farming.I have a heifer and my plan was getting a cow which I will start milking within a short time.Milk is a good source of income since I will be selling daily and the money I get will help me buy food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend around 5 hours in the scorching sun working in my farm.3 hours in the morning hours and 2 hours in the afternoon. When I am done with work at around 5pm in the evening I feel happy since it is usually time to relax and bond with my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing in my life is financial constraints.I used to depend on agriculture but the dry weather conditions and crop diseases has led to little harvest.Getting money for especially for medication has been a problem. For example in 2017 I suffered from typhoid which put me in bed for 1 month.I was very weak and at one time I felt that I had lost it.I did not seek specialized treatment because I did not have enough money.
