Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My additional goal for the next four months is to be able to raise enough money and improve my farming. I am particularly going to concentrate on buying a hybrid cow that will help increase milk production in the family. The milk produced shall be very important in feeding the family while we sell the surplus to make additional income for other important family investments. I currently do not have my own cow but relying on my son's to get milk for the family. Owning one of my own will be a very great achievement for me in the next four months.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the newly built house that I was able to build with my second transfer. Before we received this money, my family and I were living in a very small grass thatched house that had its roof leaking. We were not in a position to build a new house owing to our financial situation. The little we got from our subsistence farming was hardly enough to meet the basic household needs and we were left with very little to save if any. Building an iron roofed house was not only important in providing a decent shelter for my family but also provided us with an opportunity to gather rain water for drinking. My focus is now on purchasing a water tank to help me gather and store enough water during rainy season and travelling for long distance in search for water in the river will be a thing of the past.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next four months I expect my life to change in that we shall be more financially independent as a family. This shall be largely due to the investments that I am currently making in a bid to buy a dairy cow for the family, improve my farming practices and increase crop production. Having all these in the next six months shall greatly improve my life and that of my family as well.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
We have been suffering as a family under a grass thatched house with a leaking roof. The last rainy season left us devastated and almost homeless. I could no longer handle the idea of patching the house with polythene bags to keep us from the rains. I am extremely excited we were able to put up a better house roofed with iron sheets. I am now able to focus on other household matters even when raining.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I want to improve my source of income in the next six months. I look forward to planting an extra half an acre of land with beans.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I believe I had become a laughing stock for my neighbours. I would borrow almost every single item required in the kitchen to prepare a meal for my family. My children were always late for school as I moved from house to house looking for salt, sugar, tea leaves and sometimes maize flour not to mention, a meal at lunch hour. We have not borrowed anything from my neigbours since I received my transfer. I am happy that GD brought change to my family.
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
Farming is my main source of income but I am thinking of diversifying my crops. I want to plant crop varieties that I can take to the schools where my children study. Those schools accept cereals as a monetary means of paying fees instead of cash.
