How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is completely different than how it would have been because I now sleeping in a wooden bed with a nice mattress. For all those I have been sleeping on traditional beds made of ropes, I have not been comfortable at all and I used to wake with severe back pains every morning and I had to seek medication attention on the same. I am now glad because ever since I purchased the bed, I wake up more refreshed and much healthier. Also, the goats that I purchased have already started reproducing, and very soon I will have many of them. Through them, I will be able to achieve most of my long-time goals.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well because I was so pleased with the whole exercise. During the enrolment, I was promised that I would receive the money in two terms, each KES 55000. I am so gald since they delivered what they promised and the money came right on time no delays at all. Therefore I do not see any sector that they should improve on
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying goats at a total of KES 7000. These will now serve as the assets that I can lean on in case of any emergency since they will multiply and have many of them. Also, I used KES 7000 of the transfers one clearing school fees for my children who are in primary in the neighboring village. With the remaining amount of cash, I had to purchase foodstuffs since there had been a long drought in my region, Also I bought the new school uniforms to replace the old ones

It was around 12 noon when I was preparing lunch for my family then all of a sudden, my phone started ringing continuously. I was so curious and decided to check what the notification was all about, On checking, I realized that it was the Mpesa message from GiveDirectly that I had anxiously been waiting for, I was overwhelmed with joy and enthusiasm and decided to share the good news to my family members.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have always been wishing to see my children getting good education unlike me who never get the chance to finish school due to financial constraints. Therefore the fact that I sent back my children to school and cleared their huge fee balances makes the biggest difference in my daily life. This issue has really been trusting me for all those years because they have always been sent home every now and then for fees and this really affected their academic pefomance. I was afraid they would all drop out and that would forever haunt me as their parent. I am glad that the money came in good time because they had just resumed from the long holiday. I will cover be grateful to this organization because it restored the joy in my life also I am optimistic my children will have a bright future.

Also, I bought three goats as the living asset that I can lean on incase of any finansil constraints. I settled in purchasing goats because they reproduce to a year as compared to other living assets. With the remaing amoy t of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition has been to construct a spacious house for my family of 12, but due to financial challenges, this dream has never come to pass. I am planning to spend 90,000 shillings to construct a semi-permanent house. This is going to enable us to leave a decent life and I will be able to monitor my children's steps especially at night and also force them to wake up in the morning and study. Currently, they spend nights in our neighbor's compound. This has been stressing me for a while because I feel they not safe they may have opportunities to engage themselves in immoral behaviors. Also, I will spend the remaining amount to purchase for them revision materials such as books so that they can read and improve.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When I wake up, I normally do my house chores such as cleaning the house afterwards I prepare food for my family before I leave for my charcoal burning work so that I can earn and provide food for my family. I always enjoy doing the house chores because it fulfills me as a caretaker of my house. Unlike burning charcoal which is tiresome.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of a good source of income is my biggest challenge. I work as a charcoal vendor. This job is exhausting and earns me 350 in this amount is not enough to cater for all our needs such as food and shelter.
