Fortunately with the first transfers I managed to build a new and better home for my family and I since the one we were living in previously was not only old but also barely in good condition. It only had a single room yet I lived with my youngest children. So after the first transfers that is immediately what I dived in to take care of. Now after that, my ideas changed and I planned on growing my farm especially by buying more livestock. I burn charcoal for a living to provide for my family but the business itself is not that sustainable since I make very little money off it and drought is adding more problems since there are barely any trees to cut down and make charcoal.

In my opinion GiveDirectly has done an honest and great job especially by helping us try to eliminate poverty through the funds we receive. I had always wanted to build a better home and buy more animals in my farm but I was financially incapable. Even though I took time to work on burning and selling charcoal the money I made was never enough to sustain both my family and get involved in other projects. Therefore I am entirely grateful for the opportunity I received and I have absolutely nothing to criticise nor complain about GiveDirectly.

Upon receiving the second transfer which happened to be the last, I decided to pull through with my plan of growing my farm by adding more livestock. I went ahead and bought seven goats for KES 28,000 and a cow which cost me KES 20,000. I plan on rearing the livestock and after they breed then I could sell them and use the profit made to provide for my family since selling livestock here is common and marketable. As for what was left which was about KES 5,000 I used mostly in matters concerning nutrition since there is barely any food in the house and this is because drought has really taken a toll on us over the years.

I was wakened up by the loud vibrations from my mobile phone at around 11 PM. I was so shocked and I started asking myself several questions. However, a few minutes later I gained the courage and opted to check who it could be. Upon reading, I realized that it was an Mpesa message from Segovia Technology that I had anxiously been waiting for. I felt so happy for I knew I would achieve all the goals that I had in mind.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now have a modern decent house. Before the coming of GiveDirectly, I used to shelter under a very small hut which an old grass thatched roof which would even collapse anytime. During the winter seasons, I used to move from one village to the other in search of shelter. This used to frustrate me a lot more so my children, I always felt I was the source of all the misfortunes that we have been through. Being a casual laborer it was so hard for me to provide for my family and build a new house. This would take ages for me to accomplish. However, I was very optimistic that my dream would come true in God's time. I am so grateful that for now the story has changed and I am sleeping in a very nice shelter with all my family members. I spent a better part of my first transfer on buying some building materials which include iron sheets at KES 20000, building poles of KES 10000, nails at KES 1000, and the labor charges of KES 4000. I had intended to construct a new modern house because the previous one was a grass-thatched hut which was also small. Also, I bought two goats at a total of KES 8000. I have desired to have them but I couldn't afford them because they were very costly. With the remaining amount of money, I bought foodstuffs for my family and catered for some other household expenditures.
