How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is much different in that I established a good social standard for my life. I achieved this by paying off all my creditors. I had accumulated a lot of debts due to my spouse's terminal illness. I lost all my property trying to treat her. However, the cash transfers saved my face at the time when I was frustrated and depressed. I am now a debt free man in the society.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done so well to poor communities by sending them the cash transfers. In my honest opinion,GiveDirectly has done the very best for me.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to pay off old debts. I also purchased an ox and some household items such as chairs, gumboots and food.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that, I have paid off same the debts that I had which has enabled me repossess my two pieces of land that had been taken by the money lenders. When my phone rung at around 10:30 pm, I cross checked immediately and it was a mobile money from GiveDirectly. I became very happy because I had got the money to pay off the debts I had got for treating my wife.

I spent my first transfer to pay off debts worth UGX 1,100,000, school fees UGX 400,000, bought household items(utensils, bed sheets, a bed) and foodstuffs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I staked some piece of land as collateral to get a loan for the treatment of my ex-wife. She was too ill and it needed alot of money to treat her and upto now I have not repaid the loan and my land is not yet regained. I even don't have space for agriculture because there is no land. So, when I get this money, I will straight away pay the outstanding loan so that I can have my land back and I start growing crops on it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I report to my business. Its usually the time I get more customers.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of agricultural land. This has costed my household income because I used to depend on agticulture as a main source of income.
