What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase a cow that costed me 18,000 KES. Given that it was a season of drought, I bought maize grains worth 10,000 KES to push me through the season. I spent 9,000 KES on farming to be able to reap at the end of the season. I was privileged to finally settle my bridal price. This costed me 24,000 KES inclusive of transport to and from my wife's home. The remaining amount I kept aside for emergency purposes. I can say that this transfer really pushed be to a higher living standards than I was earlier.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD has brought about transformation in the village and till date I have no record of any bad actions related to GD.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has change, I own a cow and I have fully paid my bridal price hence the respect accorded to me in the village is maintained as men are always expected to pay off the bridal price even before settling down with their wives.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my first transfer on paying off dowry and now I have a peace of mind since I have accomplished my dream of carrying out a traditional customary wedding for my wife as the law states. I also bought two bags of maize for my family's consumption.

The moment I received my first transfer, I felt very happy since I certain of accomplishing my goals which I couldn't achieve before due to lack of funds such as paying off dowry and now I have a peace of mind since I have accomplished my dream by carrying out a traditional customary wedding for my wife as the law states.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I face right now is lack of enough money to establish my own homestead. At my age I am expected to have moved out of my father's compound and this means that I am often a source of ridicule especially whenever I am with my age mates.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning because the Lord has blessed me and my family with life.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I can stop worrying if my in laws will recall my spouse back to their home. I have not paid her dowry therefore ,according to our culture, she can be ordered to return home anytime but now I will be able to use part of the money to pay dowry and ensure that she stays here with me.
