What did you spend your third transfer on?
When I received my third transfer, I cleared the whole year school fees for my 2 children in a secondary school fees till I felt that I was emotionally relieved. I got peace!
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because, I managed to clear all the whole year fees for my 2 children and this really offered me a lot of relief in life-I felt peaceful state of mind as opposed to before when I used to struggle to raise the fees, sometimes they could stay at home even for a month while the rest could be in school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What Give Directly does well is sending us money directly, this ensures that it our transfers remain secure but it would also be prudent it runs a communal program e.g farming, along aside house to house transfers program.

I spent my second transfer to pay school fees for my children and bought food for my family . I also start a welding business to earn a living.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that we no longer go without food.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent 5,000 KES to pay part of the school fees for my daughter in secondary school. I then bought half a bag of maize for food and also clothes for the family. The rest of the amount was spent on buying daily food needed in the house.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was late in the evening when I received the Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I was not expecting it at that time and I was n pleasantly surprised. I was very happy.

What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
Firstly, l would like to use the transfer on buying two bulls and a machine for ploughing.This will help reduce my expenses in farming. Secondly,l intend to use the transfer on paying school fees for my daughter in secondary school.Lastly, l will use the remaining amount on building a decent latrine for my family.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
Being able to start a welding workshop business in our local trading center is my biggest achievement.l took a loan from my table banking group and bought a welding machine. This has enable me get some money to support my family needs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship in life is making ends meet. The price of dry maize which is our main staple food has increased due to poor yields.l have to spend more to buy food for my family but my income is low.Our crops did not do well because of low rains.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the evening when get home after work.l spend time with my family.
