How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before GiveDirectly came to work in our area and enrolled us in the program, I was living a hardship life because I had spent all my savings in meeting my mother's medication bills hence I could not buy any household item. When I received the transfers, I spent it on buying new sofa sets, new cloths, new school uniforms for my children and food stuffs. Currently, my life is significantly improved and positively transformed. Thanks to GiveDirectly for the financial support.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think GiveDirectly does well in educating and informing the recipients that the transfer it gives out is unconditional and any recipient can spend it on whatever he/she wishes to in regard to the priority of their needs. This enabled beneficiaries to wisely spend their transfers hence theirs lives positively changed. I have never seen what GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on paying medical bills for my mother who had had fractures in her leg for a long time. I was very glad to see her recovering and able to continue with her normal life irrespective of the longer duration she took to get back on her feet. I spent the rest of the transfers on buying food stuffs for my household's consumption since the prolonged sickness of my mother had drained me financially. I had already spent the little savings on her medication thus making it difficult for me to continue to provide food for my family members. I thank God for GiveDircetly for giving me the much needed support at a time I was in great need.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the peace of mind I have nowadays since I received the money. I no longer get worried when I receive threats from my employer and given that it is a casual job and I can loose it anytime. I have some money to keep me going.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money, I felt so happy. It was the least I expected at that time. I was hopeful I will receive it but not at that time.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer on paying school fees for my children who are in school. I also bought a gas cooker using part of the money. The remaining amount I am saving so that I buy a motorcycle that I will use for taxi business. At least I will be self-reliant and I will not have to depend on employment.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Iam happy that am going to receive money from Givedirectly because it will allow me to start up a new business for my wife.Proceeds from that business will in turn enable us to educate our children and I thank Givedirectly for the opportunity.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when am through with the ever demanding daily duties.I take a rest in the evening and thank God for the day and that makes me so happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have been facing is leaving from hand to mouth because of meager earnings that can not sustain even provision of basic needs. What I earn from casual labour can not meet the needs of my family at home neither mine for even a month so I strain so much financially.
