Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my cash transfer I was so grateful because even though no organisation has ever given me any cash, I was hopeful that Givedirectly would really give me the money since everything concerning the program was done by the field officers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these payments is that in the past I did not have any business but now I have a tangible business and we are able to have sufficient income to purchase food through the business.
The other thing is that this year I have managed to purchase enough fertilizer such that I am hoping that I will be able to harvest more food as opposed to how I lived in the past years.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my cash transfer on purchasing bags of fertilizer..I managed to buy 3 bags of fertilizer and spent a sum of $140 and about $8 for transportation..I am hoping that I will use the fertilizer in my maize field to increase fertility of the soil and promoting growth.
I used the other part of the money to purchase 3 bags of maize at an approximate amount of $66..The food will be enough for family since I have 5 kids and also I had a few bags in my house.
I have started a transportation business with the cash as I managed to purchase a second hand motorcycle. My husband, Kennedy will be taking people from my village to Mayani trading centre and sometimes from Mayani to Salima district..I this will help in generating day to day income for my family.
Lastly, I bought 1 goat at a price of $50 so that I can start raising at home.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money will help me fulfill my dream of having a three bedroom house built with burnt bricks and iron fitted roof. I will use $110 to mold bricks to be used to build a house. My family will have a comfortable place to sleep in. I have five children, two boys and three girls who sleep on the sitting room which is not comfortable for my daughters.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the month of August I was happy because my brother got married. I was happy because there were traditional dances, music and lots of food.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am currently facing is a financial challenge. I have always wanted to have a three bedroom house built with burnt bricks and iron sheets. I have not fulfilled my dream because I have not been able to raise enough money to build one. I live in a grass-thatched house which during rainy season, my family of seven struggles. Sometimes the roof is blown away due to heavy winds.
