My new goal is to till and plant maize in my piece of land. I want to plant the maize for my family's consumption. When there is food for them to consume, I will not incur costs in buying some, and hence I will be able to save the money that I usually make from my business of preparing and selling sour milk. I will hence be able to have money for paying school fees for my two children who are in secondary school.

GiveDirectly taught us well through the entry meeting that they held with the community members and we got to understand what the program entailed. We also liked the way they decided to independently conduct their work and not involve any other body. The enrollment process hence became fair to all. I encourage them to continue with the good work that they are doing.

I spent part of the second transfer money on building another house for my family. I spent KES 17000 on doing so. I had bought iron sheets with the first transfer. I decided to construct another house because we use to live in only one house that was small and grass-thatched. There was not enough space for us three and there was nowhere to welcome the guests who come to visit. I also decided to do so because I wanted a house that is roofed with iron sheets so that I could clean rainwater for our household use. We usually go to fetch water from the river which is not that clean. Apart from the house, I also bought a piece of land at KES 40000. I bought a point of an acre. I decided to buy more land because the one that we live in is small and there is nowhere for us to cultivate. I plan to plant maize on the land for our consumption. This will hence result in reduced costs on the purchase of food and I can save money that I make from my business of selling sour milk. I also bought a few chickens with the remaining amount of money and they have been of great help to me since I am to sell the eggs and get money for buying some household necessities such as sugar, salt, soap, etc. I was able to achieve all these because I still had some money that I had saved from the first transfer. I am happy and so much grateful to GiveDirectly because my life changed for the better. I didn't have anything before but now I feel that I am somewhere.

I was going about my usual duties at a school where I have been hired to work as the school cateress. I had just finished washing the students' utensils when I heard an SMS alert on my phone. I decided to check it and to surprise, it was an SMS indicating that I had received the promised amount from. I was filled with so much joy on seeing this because I knew my life was going to change for the better. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for what you are doing to help the needy.

The biggest difference that I have experienced in my life having gotten this transfer is that I am now able to get water for my household consumption. Apart from that, my children and I now have enough space for us to live in with the new house. We thus now have some peace of mind because we no longer move about looking for water for our consumption.

I spent most of the money that I got from GiveDirectly on buying iron sheets and trees. I bought the items because I wanted to build another house that is roofed with iron sheets. This is because I usually experience challenges in getting water for my household use. I usually get it from a river which it at times gets dry and I have to ask permission from my neighbors to allow me fetch water from their boreholes. With this new house, I will be able to collect rain water and I will no longer be having challenges in getting some. I have been living in a grass-thatched house and I had no ability to build another house because most of the money that I get usually goes to the household expenses of buying food and paying school fees for my children. I am thus grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling me achieve this dream.
