How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After utilizing the second transfer, I have not developed a defined goal that I aim to pursue once I get some money. The only thing that I have is to clear a debt that I incurred after paying less money for a plot that I bought. Therefore, if I get some money I will clear the balance and plan for the remaining amount if at all it will be there.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Sincerely speaking, GiveDirectly is an organization that gives hope to the hopeless who think they cannot own anything. On my side, I did not even dream of having my own home. In fact, I was wondering what will happen to my children if I die while in the rental house. As of now, I am a happy parent full of hope that anything is possible since I am still alive. I have a home and through the hope that I got from GiveDirectly, many more positive things will take shape in my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After getting the second transfer, the plan I had was vivid. For a while, I used to stay in a rental house as a tenant with my family something very expensive. Upon withdrawing the money, I purchased a one-acre piece of land where I built my home. This piece of land cost me KES 50000.00. Thereafter I used the remaining amount in buying some food for my family and using other sources of getting money, I constructed a house on my plot and I am now having a place I call home.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home with my children relaxing after completing my day's activities. It was about 6 pm when my kids had arrived home from school. I received a loud message notification on checking, I discovered it's a Mpesa message indicating that I had received the transfer from GiveDirectly. My third-born verified the account balance and indeed it was the transfer. I felt extremely happy for receiving my transfer since I had some projects that I wished to accomplish.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Constructing a decent shelter for the family is the biggest difference in my life. I am currently happy and stress-free after building a nice house with the cash from GiveDirectly. This is something that I would have never done without the aid, I am grateful for the transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer to purchase building materials for the construction of a decent one-roomed house for my family. This is because the house that I had was very small, leaking, and was collapsing. I was frequently afraid that it might fall while we are sleeping. I had desired to own a nice one but I lacked the financial muscles. I also bought a mattress for KES 5000, I was using old rags as beddings which were not comfortable. In addition, I bought a pair of school uniforms for each of my 3 children who are in primary school. They were going to school wearing old and torn clothes something embarrassing whenever I escorted them to school.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means building a permanent house for me. I am currently living in a one bedroom house with a grass roof. It leaks during rains season. I will build a two bedroom house at a cost of KES 80000. I will also use KES 20000 to buy five goats as investment. I will use the remaining KES 10000 to pay school fees for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My first born son works at Mombasa. Last week he sent me KES 5000 for my personal use. This money helped me get clean water from Palakumi center using motorcycle. The money sent to me brought happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of clean water is the current challenge I am facing. Our village is faced with drought and no clean water around. I walk 20km every day to go get water from a water. The water is also not clean for human use. This water has caused typhoid to one of my children.
