How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main source of income is from the bodaboda business and with many responsibilities that I have in place, it has been overwhelming. For a long time, I wasn't able to build my own house but rather use my brother's who is always away till he comes. The biggest difference in my life is that I am no longer worried about where to stay when my brother decides to use his house because, with the transfer, I managed to build a decent house that is spacious enough to accommodate my family. Thanks to GiveDirectly
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Giving assistance in form of money was the best thing GiveDirectly thought of hence every beneficiary had the option to choose what ever he/she wanted to use the money and because access to better houses in my community was a challenge , therefore , most people built new iron sheet house from grassed thatched ones .
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my second transfer to cultivate sugarcane on one and half acre of land . I am certain that I will make a lump-sum profits from the sale of sugarcane after harvesting them mid this year . The profits shall assist me in enrolling to college after ten years when I completed my secondary education . The remaining amount I bought a television set and a table as well.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to improve my current house through buying of cement, ballast, sand and paying labor so that I can plaster its walls and the floor.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I come back home from work and I am able to relax as I share a meal with my wife.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have faced was not being able to continue with my education to the University level despite having scored very good grades. This was because my parents could not afford to pay for my college fees since they have so many other pressing needs. My dreams of becoming a lawyer were shattered and for a long period of time, i was really depressed. It hurts me a lot to see my colleagues graduating in the courses that they partook while I settle for riding a motorbike in order to make ends meet.
