How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
I have had a lot of improvement in maintaining my farms as compared to four months ago when it had to lie fallow. I spent some part of the transfer on hiring casual labor to clear and plough my farms, that I intend to plant sorghum. When land is prepared well on time, I am sure of better harvest that would improve my food security. I would also sell the surplus and save with hope of buying chairs.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
I would like to plaster the floor of my house in the next four months. I have started buying bags of cement and hopefully will add some sand which is necessary for the plastering work. This will improve my environment hygiene and sanitation free from respiratory tract infections caused by dust. At least the money that I would have spent on treatments could be instead channelled to buying a cow that would provide me with milk, ghee and manure.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
My life is so peaceful and free from worries. I am able to buy food without any stress, at least I am sure of breakfast, lunch and supper unlike the previous case where a meal a day was unpredictable. I was the gossip of the village and a true reference of cast family since I could go begging for food from neighbours.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
My ambition is to buy a cow in the next six months. This will provide me with milk that hopefully will improve on my nutrition and cash flow as I shall sell surplus. I also intend to make some ghee that fetches well in our local markets. With increased sources of income, I will be reasonably liberated from the bondage of poverty.
