How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference for me I would say is that I leased a piece of land where I will now be planting cash crops every season going into the future. At least I will have a land to cultivate and get some food which I will sell out in the future once they mature which means I will have more money in the future to take care of other needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think the organization does well by giving cash to the needy who then use the transfers to accomplish what they could not do in the past.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money on buying building materials which I used to construct a new house because the house I used to live in was quite old. In addition to that, I used a good portion of the money to pay school fees for the whole year for my child so that he doesn't to miss any classes for the rest of the year.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Since I did not have a stable source of income and had to depend on casual work to raise money to meet my family demand, I have never been able to fulfil my dream of farming in large scale. The piece of land I inherited from my late husband is too small to help me realize my dream. This is the reason why I have not been able to provide for my family well because casual work alone is not enough to help me feed my family well. When I received this transfer, I had to budget well and kept a portion of it to help me in leasing in a piece of land which I will use for farming. When I went inquiring the cost, I was happy that I was able to lease one acre. I have since ploughed and harrowed. Come next year, I will plant early before the rains and then use part of my second transfer to buy hybrid seeds and fertilizers which will greatly improve my harvest. This is the beginning of my new life. I know I will not struggle anymore like I used to. Thanks to Give Directly.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When my last born son brought to me my phone that I had a text message, I was very reluctant to check it. Since he had brought it, I decided to check it. I could not believe my eyes. I was so happy and hugged my son. He was surprised why I did that and I had to explain to him. I felt so proud at this moment.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer on buying a cow which I have always dreamt of having in my life. With this cow, after it has given birth, I will be able to sell milk and raise a small amount of money for other financial needs. I can as well sell it to help me raise money for other financial needs. The other part of my transfer, I used to pay school fees daughter to reduce the balance she had in school. The teachers had warned me that she will be sent home for the same when school re-open next year if I did not pay up. I decided to sacrifice festive season pleasures by settling the arrears so they may be in school and when they get jobs after school, they will provide better festive season than what we would have had this year.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that Givedirectly has given me hands to be able to repair my house which has been leaking while it rains because I used second hand iron sheets on roofing my house. This means that I will secure food security for my family by hiring a farm from neughbor and plant sugarcane that at maturity shall enable me earn double my investment.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of tge day is usually at noon after coming from the farm, I would have taken bath and just resting and that creates joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am faced with is that I have to work hard in peoples farms daily in order to feed my family, at times we work and instead of getting paid, we are promised pay the following day, that leads to family going to sleep without meals or borrowing from neighbors.
