How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better now because I paid my children's school fees which has made me happy. My health has improved because I do not think a lot these days. Before I got the transfer, I could cry every night and I was so sickly of ulcers due to overthinking.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to give unconditional transfers to me. They frequently followed me up to find out how I spent the money which made me feel good. There is nothing GiveDirectly did not do well .
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer for paying school fees of UGX 1,100, 000. I bought 9 bags of cement, 2 iron sheets, household items and food.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The big difference now is that I have paid my children's school fees in time. Having plastered my house, I feel safe because snakes can not enter my house again. Before I received the transfer, my children had not reported to school due to lack of money and snakes could often attack me because they made holes on the wall and floor.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the mobile money message, I got excited and happy, I ululated and knelt down to thank God. I was sick but the good news made me feel better.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer for buying cement and sand that I am using for plastering my house. Secondly, I paid schools fees for my two children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to renovate my house and build a pit latrine.Iam completely blind, so have no better ways of making money. I was abandoned by my spouse after getting blind and life really is so miserable. I even do digging through sensory nerves in my hands using a stick hence each year I realise little harvest to sustain the family. A pit latrine will improve hygein in my family thus preventing diseases like diaheoria , desentry from attacking us.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My home stead is located in the middle ,connecting to neighbours homes. Therefore during afternoon I chat with neighbours that pass-by and some times my own children. This has always put hope in my life and I feel God still loves me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is poverty. When I got blind and my spouse abandoned me with all the children. No one supports me in caring for my family needs. Iam therefore forced to make ends meet by digging with the help of a stick. I also use sensory nerves in my hands to separate the weeds and crops. My family lacks sufficient foo to eat and some days I boil orange leaves as tea due to lack of money for buying suger. Also my children have drop out of school since I can not afford Paying their fees. I see they are malnourished with no future for then yet they are bright.
