How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Had I not received the transfer from Givedirectly, We would not have bought the piece of land and my dream of owning a piece of land would have continued being just a dream. I am glad that my dream and prayers were finally answered and I am forever grateful for GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I loved that GiveDirectly was fair in its enrolment process. It did not sideline other members of the village like other organizations. The villagers were also trained on how to take care of their funds when they received it and this showed that they cared. I also loved that the transfer was sent straight to the recipient's phone and not through intermediaries. In my opinion, the whole project was well done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
We have always wanted to have our own piece of land, so when Givedirectly assured us that we were to receive two transfers of approximately Ksh.100,000, we knew that our dream was dawning. I used the first transfer to purchase a piece of land and asked the seller to give me some time to clear the balance since I had given him half the amount required. So when we received the second transfer, I paid the remaining amount of the money we owed the seller.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life after we received the transfer is that it's been just pure happiness. Nothing beats that moment of owning a piece of land under your name. We have begun the journey of building a new home there away from the old congested land.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received my transfer I was overjoyed because I knew my dream will finally come true. That day I called my husband and told him about the money and he travelled home the next day. Within a week of receiving the transfer, we had already decided where to buy the land.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer on buying land. We have always wanted to buy a new piece of land elsewhere so that we can find space to do our own things. We live in our ancestral land and it is congested now because we are many at home. So each one of us is claiming a piece of land.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have had a goal of adding a piece of land to the one I have. I am a farmer and I do livestock farming which earns me an income from sales of milk. My husband is a civil servant and we use his salary majorly on household needs and we save the little that remain. I use my income from milk in daily household needs now that I am jobless. We have always save little that remains after spending our family income with an aim of buying a piece of land but since we majorly depend on my husband's income our savings has been too small hence making our goal unachiveable. Receiving money from GiveDirectly means that my goal of buying a piece of land will soon be met.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a livestock keeping farmer. My husband works as a civil servant hence I am the only one left to operate the farming at home. I usually wakes up in the morning prepare my family their breakfast, milk the cattle and then start feeding them. I collect water and feeds and moving them from one paddock to another. I always find myself working in the farm the entire part of my day. My happiest time of the day is in the evening when am done with my daily duties hence have sometime to relax before getting to the kitchen to prepare supper for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is getting a job opportunity after my secondary school. I am a form four leaver and with the little resource we had in our family I could not join any college. I left my home to seek for job opportunities but it was a big challenge. I ended up as casual security officer in Nairobi where I could earn little that could not even sustain my life in the town. The job assigned to me was too tough given that at point I could be transfered to a new place without notice or fee to facilitate my movement. I persevered the challenges for two years when I decided to get married and ended my job.
