How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Previously, I did not have a good shelter. It is a basic need but it was difficult to build one as I did not have an income plan that would cater to building a new house. I only earned enough to cater for family's food provision and maybe save towards paying school fees for my children. The transfers from GiveDirectly have seen me buy building materials and pay a contractor to build a new house for the family. My family can now stay comfortably in our big house that is in good condition too.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, they have helped the less fortunate in my society. There are numerous developments in my village. I am happier than I ever been in my life. GiveDirectly enabled me to buy building materials and pay a contractor to build a new house. I am now the proud owner of a new house. There is nothing that I can attest to that GiveDirectly does wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the first transfer to buy building materials. When I received the second one, I spent the transfer on buying more building materials like iron sheets, poles, nails and timber to build a new house as I had an old which leaks whenever it rains. I also used part of the transfer to pay a contractor to build my new house. Now I have a new house that can accommodate my family with a lot of comfort. No more leakages when it is rainy season.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I feel so strong, energetic and proud because I believe I'll soon have a decent house that I had never imagined I could own in my life. This is because I already have building materials.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my money from Indirectly I felt so happy because I received a huge amount that I had never handled in my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of the first transfer on building materials (iron sheets, nails, timber, sand) that I'm planning to use to construct a new house because my current house is in bad condition. A portion of the money I spent on food for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy building materials like poles and cement so that I can expand my house. I will spend part of the transfer on paying school fees for my children and an orphan that I am currently staying with.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I go to my farm to plough my kales. This makes me happy because I am able to provide meals for my family and sell part of it once I harvest it.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that I do not have a stable source of income and we are forced at times to skip some meals in a day as a family.
