How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest thing has been our sleeping area. My children and I used to sleep on mats on the floor. During the cold season, this was very hard to do. My children did not even have blankets. Just bedsheets. So it was even worse for them because during cold season, the floor is even colder. I have now bought blankets for all of us. This has truly changed our lives because the difference is immense.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Giving recipients unconditional cash transfers was a brilliant idea. With so much corruption in our country, it is difficult for the people deserving of aid to get the help directly. So by doing this, GD has really helped us. We have managed to receive the money and have used it to change our lives in ways other projects by other NGOs have not managed to do.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I will spend my transfer on increasing my house and adding an iron sheet roof to it, will pay for my children's fees, buy a goat, food and blankets
