How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am happy that the results of the first and the second transfer after spending were amazing, and even though I am still following up on some projects that I started, I have a new goal to improve my livestock farming. Currently, I have two dairy cows, but I am hopeful that I will soon buy another two to increase the production of milk that, in turn, will increase the daily income for my household.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The great transformation in my household would not have happened at all without the intervention from GiveDirectly. In my opinion, this has been the best support ever in my life and even to any other member of the village who received the transfer. The lessons we received at the initial stages of enrollment were useful as a guide on the wise spending that we made after receiving the money. I have nothing wrong to point out from GiveDirectly's work but I am wishing the organization the best as they visit other villages.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The second transfer came in when my household was well set on the spending plans. We had just moved from our old home after demolishing it to a new location just meters away within the same piece of land. After the construction of the main house with the first transfer, I had to construct a new kitchen that cost a total of KES 26000, obtained a new piece of furniture at KES 19000 that included a complete set of seats, two tables, and also a bed. I spent the remaining amount on obtaining a mattress for my new bed and also clothing for my three children. I am grateful that I have been able to do a lot within a very short time through GiveDirectly's support.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home feeding livestock when I heard a message alert on my phone. I decided to read and know its contents and my heart was filled with joy on seeing the Mpesa message. My wife was over the moon as she sang while dancing when I informed her of the good news. This money gave us hope that our dream of building a spacious house would soon be achieved.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Having a good shelter for my family has always been my aim but I had not been able to achieve it due to an unstable source of income. Currently, I am happy and satisfied that I was able to build a two-room house using the transfer. With this house, my wife will not be going to the river to fetch water during the rainy season since I will be harvesting rainwater. In addition, I am glad that my children will soon start spending their nights at home since they will be able to sleep in the kitchen.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a good amount from my first transfer on building a more spacious house for my family. I settled on this since we live in a small single-room house and due to this, my children always sleep at my mother's house and we also have to assemble all our belongings in one corner so that we can spread our beddings. In addition, I spent KES 3000 on farming by hiring a tractor for land preparation purposes and used the remaining KES 5000 on food to last my family for some time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I get this money I would like to build a iron roofed house. The one I am living in now is very small and cannot accommodate more than 3 guest. I am a postor but I cannot host church meetings in my house due to small space. This has really reduced my dignity as a postor. I would like to build a bigger house costing around KES 40000. I am employed to sell clothes during market days. I am paid 300 shillings per day inclusive of transport from one market to the other thus very little to meet all my family needs. So when I get this money will also start my own business this will help generate income and even save a little money from my earnings.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time I get to rest after tiresome day. I also get to spend time with my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been lack of money. I am paid KES 300 inclusive of transport I use to move from market to market. I am usually remained with 100 KES which I only use to buy food for my family. As a father this has really weigh me down since I cannot provide for all their needs especially on basic needs.
