How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I wanted to move into my own house. This has been my ultimate goal for the past couple of months. However, I could not achieve my dreams due to low income. Nonetheless, everything seems to be working out perfectly with GD's transfer. I have started my house project with my previous transfer. Furthermore, I will use part of my recent transfer to complete my house and expand my farm.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
From my own point of view, GiveDirectly has been very honest in delivering cash to poor people like us. Sometimes it appears like a dream to have received such amount of money as goodwill. I am very pleased with this program. My life has changed completely.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was in dire need of finances to complete my house project. Furthermore, I also decided to extend my farm and buy enough food for my home. Hence, when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly, I bought 2 bundles of zinc ($21,000LD) to roof my house. Additionally, portion of my transfer was used to buy two bags of 25kg rice for my home. My balance transfer was used to pay workers expand my farmland. GD has become a huge blessing to me and my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was sitting at my house when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly. With great enthusiasm, I started dancing and immediately ran to my neighbor's house to share my joy. I have always dreamed of building a house but I could not achieve this milestone due to low income. However, with GD transfer, my dream of building a house will finally be realized.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
GiveDirectly has impacted my life positively. At the moment, I feel very much relieved having benefited from this program. I am financially potent and capable of purchasing enough building materials to begin my house project. This has been the biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving transfer from GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
All along my desire was to build a house. I could not realize my dream due to very limited income. Therefore, when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly, I bought 3 bundles of zinc ($31,500LD) for the roof my new house. The balance portion of my transfer will be used as transportation and compensation for contractors working on my house project. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for impacting my life positively.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I planned to built a house, establish a business that will continue to help my family to survive and send my children to a school that will enable them to have a better education and brighter future; my parents told me about the importance of education but they never had the means to send me to school, I want to give my children the opportunity I never had so they can become great people tomorrow.
What is the happiest part of your day?
This year my farm helped me a lot, I was able to harvest enough plantain at the end of August 2021 and through the sales I got some money to take care of my children's school fees, unlike the previous two years which did not yield quality produce and sufficient crops.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Farming is a very serious challenge, the work is very hard and there is no money to buy farming tools, four years ago I never had a farm due to the lack of resources, I am currently experiencing the same challenges, at the beginning of the farming season I wanted to quit farming because of the challenges but there are no other ways to survive. Lack of money to buy farm materials and taking care of the day to day needs of my family is a challenge.
