How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is the house which I built, I spent part of it to purchase building materials for building a new house. Before we had a smaller house which was grass touched house which was almost collapsing. Before I would struggle with farming and casual jobs to meet my daily needs and pay school fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly did well buy enrolling every household and more so considering women to be the beneficiaries of this project. In my opinion, there was nothing wrong which the officers did which would taint the image of the organization.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfer which I received from GD, I invested in dairy farming. I spent KES 40000 to buy a hybrid dairy cow to rear for milk production. I ventured into dairy farming so that I would generate income through the sale of milk. The remaining portion I spent on buying food for the family since we had little food.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the newly built house and the small poultry keeping project that I have started. We now live comfortably as a family and we are so happy about this. The poultry project that I have also started is also going to help me a lot in terms of meeting the basic household needs of my family. This is the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I never thought I would really receive money from GiveDirectly until I received a message early that morning confirming that I had indeed received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used most of my transfer to build a new house. The house that we were staying was so small, old and was grass thatched too. I had the desire of building a bigger and better house but the little income that I got from my casual works was hardly enough to meet the basic household needs let a lone build a new house. On receiving this money, I made it a priority to build this house and make my family more comfortable. I also used part of the money to start a poultry keeping project that would help us sustain the level of income of our family and have better living standards. I have since bought 10 chicken and built a poultry house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means buying a cow for milking that will in turn save me the cost of ksh 60 that I usually spend in buying 2 litres of milk daily for family consumption. This means i will be able to save the money i usually use buying milk then invest it in opening a small groceries business shop for my wife latter. The remaining part of the transfer will enable us to build a more spacious two roomed iron roofed house so that we can use the hut we live in as a kitchen hence upgrading our living standards
What is the happiest part of your day?
After spending eight hours in the scorching sun farming in people's gardens in order to get some money to buy food for my family, coming back home in the evening to take a rest as i bond with my 1 year old boy and my wife is when i am most happy
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My dream of landing a job in the government sector as a procurement officer was shuttered two years ago when i was in my second year in the university due to lack of school fees. I had to come back home to seek for any available employment opportunity in order to raise school fees but due to lack of employment, i haven't been able to actualize my goals which is so disheartening now that the colleagues i studied with will be graduating at the end of this year. This has been the biggest harsdship i have faced in life
