In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The fact that GiveDirectly is helping us grow our businesses; I am very happy, there is no problem I have experienced. Ever since the pandemic struck, it has been a downhill delve. The pandemic really affected our businesses such that we had to spend all our money. Little did we know that some good was coming our way through GiveDirectly who'll now help us bring back our businesses to their feet.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received the transfer, my 3 children were yet to close school and they needed some money for transport back home and at the time, I did not have any money. I therefore sent 2 of them, who were in Nairobi KES 1000 each and KES 300 to the one in Mariakani for transport. The KES that was left, I felt it was wise to buy poultry with it rather than just having it lay around and end up spending it. The transfer really helped me; I am very grateful.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had left early that morning to go fetch water from the nearest water source which was in the other village. I remember it was on a Thursday date 11th of the previous month. Went I got home I took the phone and as I was checking the time I saw I had received the money. I was so relieved and happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
There are so many changes that have happened and will continue to happen, thanks to this unconditional cash transfers. The first of the changes was that I was able to quickly send back my son to school without struggling to look for money. Just knowing henceforth my children will go to school without any difficulties is a blessing. I also plan to revive my businessa which I shut down due to lack of capital. I used to sell clothes and vegetables.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With this money I was able to fulfill one of my children's rights to basic education as they had been sent home due to school fees balance. My husband had not been home as he had gone to work so I took it upon myself to clear the balance. I took the money that is KES.1170 after the withdrawal charge and added an extra ten shillings to clear the balance. I am very my son did not have to stay home even for a day. Thank you Give directly for giving us this opportunity.

What is the happiest part of your day?
After three years in marriage, my firstborn has not been able to get a baby. A month ago, he was blessed with a baby girl and she named her after my name. This has greatly touched my heart.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been relying on my husband for every support. Since he retired, five years ago, life has been with great challenges.
