How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has been good compared to the time I had no money. Initially, i used to be a beggar in order to raise money for my children's fees until I became liability to the society, but now i do my things timely and independently.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has been like economic Eye-opener. In most cases, humanitarian based organizations have been having a leeway for corruption practices, but GiveDirectly believes that the recipient is capable of spending his/her money as per the needs. What did not come well was that, few people did not have proper plan on how to spend the fund efficiency, financial planning should be incorporated in community engagement talk.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer in buying, mattress, school uniform for my children, house items and remaining amount I invested in agribusiness. I invented in agriculture because I am physically impaired and timely land preparation has been a very big challenge to me, that resulted to poor output. I also have children in secondary schools and being a widow and lame, getting school fees is difficult, therefore i hope that if I would get good harvest from my two acres sugarcane farm, I will be able to pay school fees without difficulty.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the joy and pride I have because my children are able to get enough time for their studies without the challenge of lacking kerosene and sharing a small tin lamp thus they have improved in-class work performance. My daughter who used to score lower grade in class managed to score high in the final primary examination and I relate this to the solar lamp that enabled her to carrry on with her studies without limitations.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 3:00 am when I was sleeping and all over sudden I was awoken by a vibration from my phone. When I checked the phone I was amazed to receive a confirmation message that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I knelt and prayed to thank God for the miracle and later went back to sleep.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
One of my sons, who is grown enough, didn't have a house and has been sharing the same single room with his sisters, something that the community really condemns. So I spent a larger portion of the money to construct him a house. I am glad that the house has not only brought the family happiness but has also painted a very good image on us. A portion of the money I used to purchase a solar lamp so that my children can have a good reliable and stable source of lighting while conducting their studies. Previously they studied with a tin lump which wasn't bright enough to light up their study room and at times too costly to fit in my tight budget. This greatly impacted on their performance which drastically fell on those days when I could hardly afford kerosene to be used in the lamp for studies. I am so happy that with the purchase of the solar lamp which accorded my daughter ample time for studies has seen her improve a lot and excelled in final examinations.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a great fortune to me since it will help me to attain financial freedom. I shall spend it mostly on buying new farm implements, which in return will boost my farming activities.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is early in the morning when I have woken up strong, hopeful and free from stresses of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is difficulty in bringing food on the table due to lack of money. I am physically disabled, and I as well lack a reliable source of income.
