Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I work in a nearby center in a posho mill that has been helping me meet the daily needs of my family. That day was not any different as I was going about my daily duties and due to the noise produced in the mill, I did not hear my realize early enough that I had received money from GiveDirectly. It was not until late in the evening when I saw the message and I got so happy to have received the money from GiveDirect. There and then I knew my plans of putting up a new house and making other investments were going to be realized. I am very happy that the house that I built is almost coming to its end.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
A lot has changed in my life since I received money from GiveDirectly. From the booming business of posho mill that I now run to the confidence that was bestowed on me to accept responsibility and get married. I feel I have been losing a lot and should have been married long time a go. I now know the beuty of having a family-a helping hand I I no longer take too long at the posho mill like I used to do. We have a new house for us and my posho mill business is booming already.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 30000 to build a new house and used another KES 20000 to improve my posho mill business. I thought of building a new house with a view that once I got married the small grass thatched house was not going to be enough for us as family. I am happy that right now the house is almost complete and are looking forward towards receiving the second transfer to be able to complete it. My business in the mill is also booming, many thanks to the transfers that I received from GiveDirectly. I now do not have people buying maize from different suppliers and bringing it to me to do the milling. This has made my income from this job to rise from roughly KES 200 per day then to KES 400 per day now. This too gave me the confidence to get married knowing better that I will me able to gather the needs of my new family quite well. GiveDirectly has brought total change in my life and I am very much grateful for the support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means income stability and job security for me.I am a miller and my grinding machine developed mechanical problems last year. This resulted in me selling all stock of maize without restocking them in order to purchase the spare parts and to repair the machine. For the past nine months my revenues have gradually declined due to a decrease in the number of customers in my posho mill. Therefore this money will enable me to buy a new poshomill and restock more bags of maize hence earning stable income. This will cost me approximately KES 65000.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a small-scale farmer who plants crops such tomato, maize and beans. In the past two months I harvested a good yield where I earned KES 12000.This has enabled me to meet the food requirements for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge am currently facing is a lack of income. My poshomill which has been my main source of incomes broke down and I have been unable to repair it. This has resulted in my inability to purchase household basic needs such as food and clothing for my sibling.
