In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The whole program has been a great innitiate by the organisation. There was nothing wrong that i had noted on any of the program activities

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my first cash transfer, I felt so relieved and happy..I knew that I will finally be able to achieve my long life dream of establishing a business..I am so thankful for that.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The greatest thing that I love about these payments is that I have been able to establish a new business, a business that I have always desired..The advantage of this business is that it has helped me to become independent as I am my own boss, I decide when to open my shop and when to close it. Also, this business has helped in creating freedom for me and my household..This is because entrepreneurship offers greater possibility of achieving significant rewards ie in terms of money hence being able to make own decisions.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With my first cash transfer I used it to establish a new business in which I have opened a tuck shop where by I am selling small stuff like matches, salt sugar and soap. Part of the money was also used to procure seven bags of cement which I am planning on using to improve and maintain my house so that I can change it's outlook. Lastly, I have bought a mattress just so that I can have a better sleeping place and a few bags of maize.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The money will meant completing my unfinished house. We are four in my family, myself, my wife and my two children. By the Grace of God soon we will be five as my wife is expecting and she is due to give birth anytime soon. I am a commercial farmer. I do farm rice, tomatoes and maize. On monthly basis I make almost K10000. ($9.23). The money is used to reinvest into farming but big part is used to buy food. I do own a piece of land, half an acre is a wet land and I have half an acre on a dry land. If land is prepared well with good fertilizer I usually harvest 20bags of maize weighing 50Kgs each. In additional I harvest 15 boxes of tomatoes after which I sale at K3000 per box at lowest while at high price I do sale at K15000 per box. The maize I harvest is enough to take us till next Farming period and at times we also sale part of the maize to buy fertilizer. The cash gift will be used to complete my house that I started building in 2009 from the money I got when I was in South Africa. Ever since I have never had a chance to find enough money to complete it. The money I got from farming is not even enough to feed my farming or even to take care of my children the way I would have been doing if I got enough money.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy whole day because I am able to think forward on the ways I could improve my life and the life of the family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I went to South Africa in 2009 looking for employment and I got one. With the job I was able to rebuild my life and the life of my family. During the my first year there everything was going well but on the second year, I started suffering from unknown diseases which made me to return home. My biggest hardship I have faced in my life could be that. Had it been, I was well during the second year, my life and the life of my family would have been better by now.
