How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In a few months to come, I hope to buy more livestock more so goats. These are the domestic animals that one can rare and benefit from within a very short duration. This is because goats reproduce mostly twice a day and their offspring mature very fast. Therefore I believe that once I will succeed in keeping them, my living standard shall improve since I will be selling one or two in case of any financial constraints.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well, especially in sending the cash directly into our Mpesa accounts. Also, we had all the freedom on how we could spend the money according to our household needs. Therefore the organisation has done nothing wrong that needs to be reviewed.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a small portion of my second transfer on buying iron sheets and nails and a wooden door. These were purposely for the renovation of my which was almost collapsing due to its poor state. Additionally, I needed an extra room for my grandchildren since I have been staying with them for a while and I felt its high time for them to have their room. I have glad this has been a success through GiveDirectly. To add to that, I purchased a bed and mattress which cost almost $100. Initially, I used to sleep on traditional beds made of ropes, and I could always complain of back pains every morning. Most of the time, I could not even perform my daily house chores. Later on, I cleared $150 for my three grandchildren who are in primary school. They are now studying comfortably without any disturbances like before which I am positive that they are going to do better in their academics. With the remaining amount of money, I have been buying decent clothes and food for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was about to take my afternoon meal when I heard my phone vibrating so loudly. I ignored it and proceeded with what I was doing. In a twinkle of an eye, I heard of my neighbors celebrating and shouting mentioning GiveDirectly. I definitely knew there was something great. Therefore becasue I couldn't read on my own I asked one of my grandchildren to check what the notifications were all about. On checking, he realized that GiveDirectly had debated my first trasfers. I was overwhelmed with joy and started celebrating with my family members for the huge blessings.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of two dairy cows. I have been longing to have them in my compound but they were too costly. Therefore I ended up admiring those of my friends and hoping I will own them someday. My prayers were answered and after receiving the first transfers I had to accomplish my dream. I am positive that in a few months to come they will be producing milk and they will purposely for my family consumption and for commercial. I am pretty sure that I will get good returns from the business because the milk business has high demand in my region. I will then save the money that I will be earning and even start a kiosk business which will be getting an additional income. Therefore I believe I will no longer strain in meeting my family's daily needs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying two dairy cows that will serve as the living assets that I can lean on in case of any financial constraints. I later bought a new wooden bed and a mattress to replace the old traditional bed that I have been for all these years. I have been complaining of some back pains and some sleepless nights as a result of the state of the bed. Also, I am planning to clear school fees arrears for my grandchildren who are in primary schools. In addition to that, I am using the remaing amount on buying enough foodstuff for the family. I am now grateful we now take at least two meals a day.
