How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I never received the transfer because my living standards have improved. First, my family gets a balanced diet unlike before. Also, I earn an income through the sale of milk and eggs. I use this money to cater for our basic needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well by giving us aid in terms of cash. Due to this, everyone in the village was able to concentrate on their priorities.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
As a way of starting poultry keeping project, I bought some chicken using Part of my second transfer. I am now glad since my wife does not ask me for everything as she can easily sell some eggs and use the money to provide for our basic. Also, I bought a calf for rearing. I believe that it will be calving soon and I will get enough milk for sale. I used the remaining amount to expand my business. Due to this, I have been able to meet our needs on time due to increase in profits.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I now sleep comfortably as compared to before where I always wished for dawn because of the discomfort. Besides, I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy. I couldn't believe it until the next day when everyone in my village was celebrating. When my wife learnt that, she was equally overjoyed.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the money I received to purchase a dairy cow and bull. Initially, I didn't have one and so was always forced to purchase milk for my family consumption. I also bought some foodstuff for my family which will last for a period of time. I also bought a bed and beddings which include some two good quality mattresses since the ones we were using were very old and tattered. Besides, I purchased some clothing for my whole family

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wished to start an income generating activity in order to be self employed but due to lack of capital, i haven't been able to do so. The business opportunity that i foresee would earn me more profit is buying livestock cheaply from the village and selling them in the market at a higher price. I also plan to start poultry farming in my farm where my spouse will spearhead this project. This will enable us to support each other in generating income for our family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evenings are the happiest part of my day after arriving home from work, especially during days that i got enough money to buy food for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of sustainable source of income has been a great challenge to me. I engage in the business of burning charcoal in the forest, a very risky activity since it is illegal. Its therefore never a guarantee for me whether i will get to provide daily needs such as food for my family which stresses me alot.
