How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different because I have acquired ten goats that I managed to buy through this money. These are assets to me that I can sell as they reproduce and increase in number. Through them, I will be able to raise more finance in case of any financial need like educating my children.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well in improving our lives. We now have access to good shelter and livestock as assets to us which we can lean on in case of financial need. I don't see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on purchasing ten goats which I am currently keeping in my homestead. Having these goats is a saving for the future of my children's education. I had also acquired a motorcycle on loan thus I took KES 25000 to pay for the installment. I took the remaining amount to buy daily foodstuffs and other household expenses.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My greatest happiness was to see my children go back to school and continue with their education and achieve their lives' goals. I used to toil day and night to try and raise their school fees, however, the little I was getting could not fully cater for all their school fees, that is until Give Directly came for my aid. Once I received the transfer, I paid and cleared the school fees for all my three children, which amounted to KES 30000. The biggest difference in my life, therefore, is the peace that comes with knowing that my children can comfortably concentrate on their studies without the fear of being sent home again for school fees.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When Give Directly promised us that we would receive some money from them in a months time, it seemed too good to be true at first. However, it became a reality to me on the night I received my first transfer notification. As I read through the message, I felt happy and excited! I was very thankful to Give Directly for the financial assistance.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My three children who are all in high school had stayed at home for some weeks due to lack of school fees. It really troubled me because I could not raise the full amount to clear their school fees. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly, I managed to pay all my children's school fees which amounted to KES 30000. In addition to this, I bought four goats at KES 11000 which to me are my greatest assets. I know that they will reproduce in the near future and I will have many of them. I will be able to sell to raise more money through them whenever a need arises. I also spent KES 4000 to start a poultry project so as generate more income by selling them in the local market. The proceeds from this will help me meet my daily basic needs and whenever a financial need arises. I spent the remaining amount to buy foodstuffs and in meeting other households expenses.
