How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has been transformed because I started a business which earns daily income. With this income I am able to take care of the family without any worries. Previously, I depended on agriculture and handouts from relatives. Often times, the children would fall sick and I had to secure soft loans so as to treat them. However, it was a relief to me when I received the cash transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to send money directly to the people without using any third party. The staff also sensitized the community well on how to spend the cash transfer.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent all the second cash transfer to restock my business.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My standard of living has improved in that, I have got a stable source of income. I started agricultural produce business that currently earns me a profit of UGX 40,000 to 50,000 per bag. My family now feeds well(on a balance diet), gets medical treatment in time and I am having some savings for any need that arises. Prior to receiving this transfer, my family never fed on a balanced diet and I was in debts because I didn't have enough money.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My phone rung at around 4:40 AM, I immediately checked the phone and it was a mobile money message from Segovia. I was overwhelmed by joy because I had never received such an amount of money in my entire life time and by then I knew my plan to start up a business would be attained.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to start up a business of buying and selling agricultural produce(rice and beans)worth UGX 1,300,000 and UGX 400,000 I bought clothes, utensils, a mattress and a bed.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mean starting up a business that will generate daily income in order to solve household problems. I have been relying only on agriculture but it is not reliable hence the need to diversify the source of income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening after I have completed my day's work. At that time, I will have moved out to a nearby center in order to socialize which relieves me off stress.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life is lack of a reliable source of income. I only rely on farming in order to sustain the family. Some times, farming is faced with external shocks like drought which leaves you with no other source of income.
