Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so thankful that I have received the cash..It was an opportunity for me to complete my house which was like major challenge.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these payments is that in the past I used to have a very tiny house but now with the cash i have been able to finish my big house which was built a long time ago..The new house is quiet big and very spacious such that my whole family will be comfortable.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have used my most recent transfer to procure building materials such as 24 iron sheets which I have used in improving the roof of my house..I also bought things like timber as well as nails..My house was already built so the cash helped in completing it. Lastly, I spent an amount of about $30 to help my son Nelson, who is planning on becoming a village chief..The money is paid to the Traditional Authority T/A of the area.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I plan on adding 3 more bags of fertilizer to make it 5 and I believe this will be sufficient for my farm. I have always wanted to own a shop, so I would use 200000 kwacha of these funds to start up that business. I feel that way money would multiply since people would come to buy from me in this area. I feel like this business brings in more returns that would help alleviate my poverty levels.
What is the happiest part of your day?
On monday this week we managed to afford 2 bags of fertilizer from Mayani trading center at 39000 each. This has brought me some sort of happiness because atleast now I have something to apply in my maize field that I am certain will give me hope for bumper yields next season.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband is into the business of buying and selling sack bags used for drying agricultural produce like beans, maize and soy. The current economic situation in the country makes it hard for him to realize the same profits he used to in the prior years. This in turn makes it hard for him as a breadwinner to support us, his family. Initially from the sales he would get profits of about 100000 but these days he only makes half of that and considering all the costs involved in this business that's a loss and hence we are unable some basic needs as a household to support ourselves and our kids.
