How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The new goa that I have now is to get some money to build a house on the land that I had bought before. I will relate with my family. I will be so happy that I have always wanted to do that before but I did not have the money.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The training and the registration were perfectly done well and the people who received the transfer spent it well. This has improved their standard of living. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES30,000 on purchasing a heifer. This is because I buy milk daily and this is so costly for me. I will cut the daily cost of buying milk in the future when it reproduces. I have always wanted to own a dairy cow but I did not have the money. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has enabled me to achieve my dream. I gave KES 10,000 to my son to boost the business that he is doing now. The rest of the money I spent was on food and household items.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was still early in the morning as I was taking breakfast when I received a message indicating the receipt of my first transfer. I immediately informed my family and they were equally glad to hear the good news. I was full of joy on that day knowing that my life would never be the same again.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life has changed for the better since I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. Because of this, my daily routine has changed since I always wake up knowing that apart from the household chores, I have some assets to feed. In addition, I foresee my life continuing to change for the better especially when it reproduces. I will be using money from the sale of surplus to meet our basic needs and on paying school fees for my children.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was thinking of an investment that I can benefit from for so long and even use to remember GiveDirectly's good deeds in our lives. Because of this, I spent KES 30000 from my transfer to acquire two heifers. Due to this, I will not be depending on subsistence farming only when it calves since I will be earning money through the sale of milk. In addition, I gave KES 10000 to my son who was not lucky to be enrolled in the program so he would use it to settle his family's needs and spent the remaining amount on some foodstuffs and clothes for my family. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for this support that has enabled me to own some live assets in my compound.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wished to own a big piece of farm that can allow me to do farming. As at now I own a half an acre piece of farm which we live with my two sons who are both married. When we shared among us , each went with a point which is too small to do any farming. A larger pet of it is filled with rocks, dry and nothing hardly does well when planted. I plan to spend the whole amount to purchase a piece of land I had earlier identified. This will help me do farming that can give me income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Living to see the new year of twenty twenty two is what made me happy. It has brought me joy and hope that I am still alive to still work and see my children and grandchildren grow.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge is financial constrains. I do not a stable or reliable source of income making it hard to meet my family's needs like food. My piece of farm is very small, I can hardly do any farming. I depend on two cows that I own to give me income through sale of milk but it is unreliable. Most of the time they do not get enough feeds so milk production is also very low.
