How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Had it not been the coming of GiveDirectly to me, then I wouldn't have been able to built a new iron roofed house since I did not have any resources to accomplish this. Also, I now have a pair of oxen which will greatly help me in ploughing my farm. I used to hire from neighbours, but currently I will no longer be hiring from them, instead I will hire to them at a fee. My children also are comfortably in school having cleared fee arrears through this support from GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done best in choosing and enrolling us because of the poverty that had really stricken us. Our lives have greatly improved since the coming of GiveDirectly. We have been able to construct new houses and in addition paying for children's school fees. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly doesn't do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on paying for my children's school fees. They had been sent home since I was unable to pay for them on time. They were allowed to resume their studies after I cleared the outstanding fee balance. Apart from this, I also purchased some building materials that include pieces of iron sheets, building poles and timber for the construction of a new house. The house that I have been living in was in a very bad condition thus I built a new house through this money. I spent the remaining amount to buy some daily foodstuffs and paid for some house hold expenses.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I had a big problem with how I would increase my acreage when it comes to early cultivation and utilize my land fully. Also, the cost of hiring was always cumbersome and costly to me personally and the need to have my own pair of oxen was always in my mind. GiveDirectly has fulfilled this through the transfers and now I have my own pair of oxen to help me in my farm and I will also hire them to others at a cost and earn some income.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
On receiving the first transfer notification, my happiness and joy were beyond control and I smiled all day long and felt peaceful in my heart after a long time of worries caused by many issues that I couldn't be able to accomplish due to lack of money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer to buy a pair of oxen, which will help me a lot on my farm. This is because for a long time I had been using farm tools that are inefficient in extensive farming since they are tiresome to use and with them, you can only till a small acreage and leaving the rest of the farm uncultivated. Since I was able to acquire this pair using the GiveDirectly money, I will no longer be hiring from neighbors which have been the norm for so long. I will also be able to hire to the at a cost which means an income to me when the season for tilling comes. I also purchased three goats to keep in my compound and as assets for the future, since once they reproduce and increase in number, it will be a benefit to me and also to my children's education since they are still young. I spent the remaining amount in buying some shopping for my kids who are now preparing to go back to their different schools for yet another academic year by buying them uniforms and other school materials they required.
