What did you spend your first transfer on?
I paid off a debt worth UGX 1,200,000 and repossessed my farm land, bought clothing/household goods( abed, mattress, pair of bed sheet and blanket) worth 378000, paid medical bills worth UGX 70,000 and bought food worth UGX 50,000. There is a balance which he was not sure of.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I got money from GiveDirectly, I felt very happy because I was going to repossess my farm land which I had used as security for the loan I obtained.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life has improved because I have paid off the debts and repossessed my farm land which I have already cleared to cultivate cassava. Secondly, my child managed to access better treatment for typhoid in a private clinic. Previously, I had to do casual labour in order to get money for renting farm land and at the same time provide basic needs for the family like treatment which was very difficult.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is poverty. I hardly eat 2 decent meals a day because there is no money to buy food. I also can't take my family members to good health facilities because I cannot afford.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I see my family members having a meal.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have land that I staked as collateral to get a loan to help in marriage arrangements but upto now, I have not got money to pay back the loan. So, when I get this money, I will pay back the loan so that I regain my land and do agriculture on it. I will also use part of it as capital to start a small retail shop business that will sustain our household. If there is any balance, I will use it for urgent needs in the household like paying outstanding school dues for the children and pay medical bills.
