Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The house that I was previously living in was not spacious enough to accommodate us as a family. I had no plans of building a new house considering that my financial status was not good. GiveDirectly made it possible for me to build a new spacious house that can accommodate us all, through their financial support. To me, owning a good and a spacious house is the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the message notification early in the morning. As I went through its contents, I could not hold back the happiness and joy that instantly filled my heart.GiveDirectly had finally sent the transfer I had anxiously been waiting for. I was thankful to God and to GiveDirectly for financial support.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer on purchasing building materials which include iron sheets and building poles to construct a new house. The old house I was living in was not spacious enough to accommodate us. Through the transfer, I was able to construct a two-roomed house which is much more spacious to live comfortably with my family. In addition to this, I had desired for long to build a toilet in my home. We had no access to toilets and open defecation in the bushes and fields was really exposing us to the risk of being infected by diseases such as cholera. Because of this, I bought bags of cement, iron sheets for constructing a toilet. Now we have access to a toilet. I also purchased an ox which I would use for ploughing. This would help me with my farming and improve food production. I will increase the acreage of land and utilise my land which was at times left uncultivated due to the high costs of hiring Ox from neighbours.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition has been owning at least two dairy cows but due to lack of money, my dream has never materialized. Receiving this money will mean achieving this dream. The milk from these cows will be distributed to Bamba dairy center to earn me income. The profit from this business will help me paying school fees for my grandchildren and also sustaining other family basic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when my grandchildren are back from school. It is at this time when I prepare supper for the family members. The company I get from them while taking supper together makes me feel happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is bringing up my children lonely. My husband died long ago when my first child was five years and I had to take my two children to our maternal home. I used to do casual jobs and the amount from these jobs was not enough to cater for their school fees. This made them to drop out of school while in standard four.
