Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so much happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. The money came at around 7:00 pm and it came at a time we were with the entire family. I shared the good news with them and we all broke into a celebration mood.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the investments that we were able to make. From buying of furniture and payment of school fees for our children. We are much happy as a family right now.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a father of 8 engaging in livestock farming. My ambition has been to engage in large scale dairy farming because this is the main economic activity in this area.I have a large piece of land equivalent to 5 acres, this is enough to keep atleast 5 dairy cows. Moreover ,we leave next to a forest which serves as a good source of feeds for our cattle and also gives access to clean water. In the past 5 years ,I had flock of cattle but all these were sold out to pay school fees for our children.Since then owning a dairy cow has been a challenge to me due to financial limitations verses numerous needs of the family. However,am now happy that I will be able to own two dairy cows because I will use KES 50000 to buy them.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the past 4 months we harvested 5 bags of maize from our one-acre piece of land. This has brought happiness into my life because I have been relieved from buying maize for these 4 months. In addition I have been able to save KES 20000 that would have been used to purchase food.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraint is the biggest challenge I am currently facing. This has been attributed to the decline in yields from our farms for the past 6 years.Currently I engage in casual jobs where I earn KES 8000 per month. This amount is only enough to meet the household food requirements and partially the school fees. At the moment I am struggling to make ends meet to pay the outstanding fee arrears at various schools where my children study.
