How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
One thing I am looking forward to having in a few months is a home. This would bring me tremendous joy for it would be a great way for me to honor myself as a parent and fulfill every promise of protecting my children and ensuring that they have a place they can call home without worry. Secondly, since this piece of land is not very small, I am thinking of having rental houses build there which will enable me to be financially free as it will generate stable income as along as there are tenants.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I was able to acquire two items through the cash transfer: a tailoring machine and a piece of land onto on which I intend to construct a home of my own together with a number rental units. GiveDirectly has enabled me to think more strategically on business, and I believe that everyone who has benefited is feeling the same way I am. I am thankful that things had to happen this way so that I may be where I am and determine where I would like to go. Thank you GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It has not been easy for me to operate as a single parent with three children. After my husband left me, I decided to return home and begin a new life with my children, which was one of the most difficult decisions I had to make. Fortunately, I was given space to build a house and was asked to start looking for a place of my own. So, when the transfers was received, I spent $35 on a piece of land where I intend to build my home and spend my moments with my children in peace. Another item I used the transfers on was to buy a bed and a mattress for $15 because I had been sleeping on the floor without a mattress for a long time and on some tattered clothes that did not protect me from problems with my back. I am overjoyed to have all of these things with me, and my children are happy too that we are progressing in life; however, it was different for them because they had a bed and a few mattresses, but they were in poor condition. I have also put aside $10 for their education expenses since I don't want them to be distracted at school while other children are reading.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I recall being at home sewing clothes for my customers at the time I received my transfer. Suddenly, my phone began to ring loudly, and upon checking, I discovered that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was overjoyed because I knew I would be able to fulfil my dream of enrolling my son in a junior high school. I then began to plan how we would spend our transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The cash transfer made a significant difference in my day-to-day life by allowing me to start a tailoring class that would earn me extra money. This is because I was given time to decide what I wanted to do with the money with no strings attached. I am overjoyed and delighted to have accomplished my objectives in such a short period. I'm not worried about where I'll get the money for my son's tuition next term. This is all due to the money transfer. I'm grateful for your help in bettering our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It is difficult for me to raise my three children as a single mother. This is because we recently parted ways with my husband, and I was forced to return to my home with my children. What kept my hope alive was the fact that I had trained as a tailor, which I now use to support my children. When my first transfer arrived, I spent $130 on school fees for my son, who was starting junior high. Later, I spent $140 on a sewing machine to start a tailoring class and earn extra money while empowering others. In addition, I set aside $210 for future emergencies. The transfer simplified our lives. I have never witnessed such a noble gesture in my life, and we are honoured to be among the recipients.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I have a son who's in grade six finishing that level of of education at the end of this year, and hopefully joining junior high school come next year. This is where I plan to put much of the cash grant I stand to receive. It's not possible to tell how much that is going to cost since junior high school is part of the new education system with our children being the first lot. Also occasionally I do get influx of clients who normally demand quality work within the shortest time possible especially when they're having events like weddings. To solve this without losing money, I might also buy an extra machine at around $ 200 so that I can be getting support from other tailors during such times under agreements some sort.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The month of July this year was such a boom for me! It was this time when old people in the village had just received their stipend from the government and so their spending ability increased as well. I sold so many pieces of ready made clothes and I was able to pay my bills effectively for that period. Even though I can't tell how much I made because I normally do not keep very good records, this was countless happy moments!
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been struggling with low income a lot since I returned to the village. I came back two years ago following a separation with my husband. I have been living off tailoring business feeding my three children and educating two of them who are already old enough to be attending grade school. But I can not say it's been lucrative because the income is really unreliable. This is due to the fact that majority of the villagers have no income which makes it hard for them to consume my services at a reasonable rate that would have translated into good cash.
