How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Paying school fees to my child with ease is the biggest difference that I would not have achieved without GiveDirectly's assistance. Being a sole breadwinner of the family who relied mostly in a meager income that I got from selling milk to meet my family's pressing needs and pay school fees for her was the biggest challenge that I always wished I could come out of. Therefore, I could not consistently pay school fees on time but rather paid in bits after two to three months and this kept my child out of school. I feel so happy now seeing her rush for this golden opportunity. The other difference is I own a calf which is not something that I would have managed to do at this time without the support of GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well through providing unconditional money which meant their was no refund hence making the beneficiaries have comfort in making decisions on how to spend their transfer wisely that lead to positive impact in my community .This is so because village members acquired livestock, started business and paid school fees for their children with ease.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to buy a she - calf 14,000 KES. Buying a dairy calf act as savings in that I will sell the reproduced grown livestock in the near future and put the extra income on my household investment. I also paid college fees 20, 000 KES for my child. The remaining amount I bought clothes and food for my family's consumption as well.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that of having paid school fees for my daughter at a time that I actually thought she was going to drop out having accumulated too much money that I could not raise at that time. I am now almost sure that she will clear her university education without further bottlenecks that can affect her studies. All thanks to GiveDirectly transfers that I received in time to safe the situation.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received this money in the night of 9th and I just felt so happy considering that I had just received a letter from the university stating the amount of fee balance that I had to pay before my daughter could be allowed to sit for her examinations. It was so fulfilling for me to have an assurance that finally my daughter was going to sit for her end of semester exams without fail. She was equally surprised that we finally had money when she was at the verge of dropping out of school and she got more motivated than before to even work harder and produce good results.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used all of my first transfer to pay school fees for my daughter who is studying at the university. I had earlier planned to use part of my transfer to buy a dairy cow which was never to be due to the huge school fees balance that my daughter had then. I am grateful that I was able to pay her school fees in time and enabled her to sit for her end of semester exams without fail. This has given her a hope for a better future and motivated her to even work harder.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will ease the burden of school fees that I have.I have two children in college and others still in primary school.I also have a plan of buying a cow to add to the one that I have. This will translate to increase in milk production.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After preparing breakfast and my children leave for school,I milk the cows.I then go and work in my farm.Currently I am weeding beans and maize. When its lunch hour ,I prepare lunch then go back to my farm after lunch. In the evening is when I relax with my family after the day's activities. This is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is paying school fees for my children.I depend on farming to pay school fees for my children.Farming in this region is not reliable because of the climatic conditions and crop diseases especially for maize farming.Currently I have two children in college and one who is waiting to join college.I cannot manage three children in college and thats why one has to wait for the other to complete.I have three children in primary school and one of them will be joining secondary school next year. This is clear that the burden is increasing more and more as children move to higher academic level.
