The new goal that I did not have before receiving the transfer is starting a poultry-keeping project and horticulture farming. These two activities will enable me to earn some income through the sales of eggs and my farm produce. I will also get enough food for the family and cut the daily cost of buying. We will save the little amount that we get to make sure this goal is achieved shortly.

GiveDirectly does well by Giving money to the poor in the community to pay school fees for their children in various schools. Most of the people were able to build better houses and purchase dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well since the process was well explained there was no biasness at all.

I spent KES 12,000 on purchasing a heifer. I will get enough milk when it reproduces in the new future and cut the daily cost of buying milk. I spent KES 10,000 on paying my secondary school fees. This enabled me to study well without being disturbed. I have completed my studies and looking forward to joining college soon. I spent KES 7,000 on settling the debt that I had. This was giving me sleepless nights currently I sleep well without any worries since I have paid the debt in full. Besides that, I spent KES 10,000 on purchasing two sacks of maize to feed my family. The remaining amount of money I spent on purchasing furniture and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.

It was around 8:00 am when my sister who had my phone realized that there was a message from GiveDirectly. I was excited to check it up since I had been hoping to receive the transfer anytime over that week. It was indeed a confirmation message of the receipt of the first transfer, and could not hold back my happiness but informed my husband who was equally happy. Due to the heavy traffic at the Mpesa shops, we had to wait till the following day when my husband collected the money from the nearby shopping center.

The biggest difference in my daily life is the massive changes we experienced right after receiving the first transfer. My husband had been doing the casual jobs whose income would be spent right after receiving. At the moment, he has been able to make some savings since most of the things that we used to buy including foodstuff are still in stock.

After buying milk for my family of four for a long time, our priority plan after receiving the first transfer was to purchase a dairy cow that would have provided us with enough milk and saved my family from the high cost of buying milk every day. It was unfortunate that after spending KES 35000 on a dairy cow, we had to spend another KES 3000 treating it, and worst enough, it finally succumbed to East Coast Fever. It was a saddening occurrence for my family but we are hopeful that the second transfer will help us in making our dream come true. I later spent KES 7600 of the remaining amount on buying two sacks of maize that we are still using as foodstuff, paid my college fees of KES 5000, and used the remaining amount on new pairs of clothes for all my household members and other household goods that we were lacking. Even though our dreams were put to a halt after the death of a dairy cow that I had bought, I am still grateful to GiveDirectly for the support and looking forward to the second transfer that will still revive our dreams.
