Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money from GiveDirectly I was really very happy and thankful for the great help that we were receiving. We had a lot of plans and we strongly believed that the money we had received would finish a better part of it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the school fees payment. It had been a struggle ensuring that we complete the payment of school fees for all our children, we would always do the casual works in order to make a saving out of it. On receiving this money we felt a relief and to date we are still happy that we are part of this project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, I spent part of it obtaining materials which were meant for the construction of a new kitchen and used part of the remaining on paying school fees. I spent the remaining on buying solar lighting system, bought furniture, clothing for all the family members and also foodstuff.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is a big relief to my wife and I. She will no longer have to walk about five hours a day to look for casual jobs to provide for our children's education. Two of our children are in secondary school while another is in the university. Receiving this money will enable us pay their fees totalling to $300.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a church minister. I attend prayer meetings Tuesday and Thursday every week in the evening. This is where I get to join fellow believers in prayer, hearty conversation and laughter. This makes me so happy and what a way to unwind after a tough week.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have lived in an ASAL area all my life. Some of the challenges that have come with it include water shortage, rampant droughts and malnutrition thanks to scarcity of food. Being a rocky terrain, crops like maize hardly grow and pasture fast depletes due to scorching sun. This is the biggest hardship I've faced in my life.
