How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before enrollment , my family and I were living in a single room house that serve as bedroom, sitting room and kitchen. It was also small in size which made me feel so uncomfortable and embarrassed moreso when visitors came. Today , I am happy and glad that I have extended my house and its spacious enough with enough rooms . Therefore, my children have a room to study and sleep comfortably since they can afford to have their own privacy . At the same time they have two pair of school uniform which makes them neat and presentable in school unlike before when they only had one pair .
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion , GiveDirectly did well by giving transfers directly to beneficiaries without involving intermediaries this had enabled as get the required amount of money from the donors which has improved our living standards as community. Beneficiaries have built houses , started business and enrolled children to school . I do not see what GiveDirectly did not do well in their operations.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to complete the construction of my house that I was extending . Today , my house is spacious enough that fits my family comfortably. Before , we used to live in a small mud house which could not host all of us . Currently, with this spacious house my children have their own room where they study and do their assignment without any disturbances . The remaining amount I have saved since I intend to start my own saloon at the start of next year .

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own a cosmetic and a saloon business. Previously, I was employed in a nearby saloon owned by a friend and I was paid at a commission that barely met my everyday needs. It is from this premise that I learned a few skills on how to run the business. Currently, I'm in a better position since all the profits I get from the saloon and the cosmetic business are all mine. Therefore, I can comfortably chip in to assist in catering for my family's needs since my spouse lost his job some years back. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for coming to our village and I being among the beneficiaries.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was woken up by a message that I received at around 3 in the morning and on checking and realizing that it was a message notifying me of the transfer I had been promised. I got so excited and immediately knew that some of the dreams that I had would finally be accomplished.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Before I received the first transfer from GiiveDirectly, I was employed at a friend's salon and I was paid commission depending on how much work I did. When I received the first transfer, I opened my own business where I now run a salon and a cosmetics shop. I also renovated my house since the walls were already weak and I feared it might fall on us during windy seasons. I used the rest of the transfers to buy a bed and a new mattress to replace the old ones that I had and also bought enough foodstuff and other essential household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest desire has been to open up a SaIon of my own. I undertook a hairdressing course back then and l currently work in a friend's Salon. I thank God it has gained me a vast experience in the field. My plan is now to secure a premise and stock it with the necessary equipment. It will enable me to earn an income for my family while at the same time offer opportunity to other ladies who have interest in hairdressing to equip their skills and earn an income for their families too. This is what receiving this money means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day because it is at this moment when I spend quality time with my family. I spend most part of my day at the Salon, and the only time I bond with them is in the evening. My husband too is a motorcycle rider, and he always yearns to spend time with us and that makes it the happiest part of our day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of adequate resources has been the biggest hardship in my life. My husband operates a motorcycle taxi, and his income is hardly enough to meet the needs of the family. On the other hand, I am employed in a salon on contractual basis and am being paid on commission, so at any point, there are no customers, I suffer a lot since I end up going home empty-handed. It has been a frustrating period but I am glad to learn that our transfers will be in very soon. At long last my dream our owning a Salon is finally coming to fruition.
