How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My major goal was for me to be able to construct a decent Kitchen house, that's what I had intended to use my second transfer, the goal has not changed to date and I am delighted that I was able to accomplish it precisely on time.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I am thankful for the unconditional transfer, I believe that God used GiveDrectly in uplifting our lives as a community more so everyone was assisted equally without favouritism. So far I have not identified any loophole in their work or anything that has not been done professionally.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The roof of my Kitchen was tattered out, It had rusted, more so it was leaking too during the rainy season, thus upon receiving my second transfer I prioritized building a decent house, therefore, I used KES 60,000 in finishing the project, I had committed an extra five thousand from the first transfer. I am so happy and proud that I was able to achieve my goals in a short time.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 8am. I had just finished my breakfast. When I heard a ringtone message from my phone. When I check it out I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I immediately inform my family members. My family felt so happy because we have never received such amount of money before. I Withdrew the money the same day. I knew I would renovate my house boost my business of selling maize. This was my main top priorities. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have renovated my house. I used to live in a dusty floor house and we were being exposed to dusty particals which might cause some diseases. The floor had cracked and it had some holes in it. It was so tedious to clean it up. I had always wished to renovate it but I did not had the money. Whenever I had visitors I used to shy off welcoming them because my house was not decent. I depend on small scale business of selling maize. This earns me a small income and I was not able to save so that I be in a position to renovate. I had so many things that needed my attention like providing for my family and to expand this business. I had no hope of renovating it soon. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I felt so happy and grateful. I knew I would be in a position to purchase material and cemented the floor of my house. I did this definitely and put some tiles. My house now look so decent and I no longer shy off like before. it's easy to clean up unlike before. We are no longer exposed to dust particles. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 44,000 to renovate my house. I had always wished to do this but I didn't had the money. The floor of my house had cracked and it has some holes in it. This was so stressful and demoralizing. It was not easy to clean the floor and could take quite some time to get it done. Currently it look decent since o renovated and put tiles. It's now looking decent. I spend the rest of the money to boost my business. I bought more stock. I sell maize at the shopping center. This earns me a profit to meet other household items including paying the school fees. I am so happy for the support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a small business in a nearby town. I sell maize in the posho mill I opened. So when I get this money I would love to expand it. I have always wanted to open a maize store where I will stock maize for sale. I need like KES 100000. With every sag of maize, I get 100 KES profit. The profit I earn will help me pay school fees for my son who is in secondary school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My cow delivered who could produce up to 10 Litres of milk a day. This milk I could sell as a source of income. I earned up to KES 4000 per month. This helped me to clear school fees. My son had an easy time studying in school when my other business went down due to COVID-19. It brought joy to my life knowing he can concentrate on his studies.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge I am currently facing is a lack of money. Since the onset of COVID -19 business went down. At times customers buy on credit and may take time to pay me. This is affecting my business since I depend on it for my other needs like paying school fees for my son.
