How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Our future is brighter after receipt of the transfer because we have some additional investment. The livestock that we purchased to act as invaluable resources that will be sold in the future to educate my children and handle developmental programs. I am more prepared to educate my other three children.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by offering the aid in form of a grant rather than a loan. In my opinion, this acts as the best way of alleviating poverty because the needy are not tasked with repayment practices. Personally, I find nothing that GiveDirectly is not doing well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used 430 USD of my second transfer on purchasing livestock as an investment to be used mainly in educating some of my children. I did so because we had sold almost all the livestock we had in educating some of my children. Also, I bought school uniforms worth 20 USD for my two children because the ones they had were old and torn. Finally, we purchased food with the remaining amount because we had exhausted our food stocks and we were yet to harvest some food crops.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was 7am in the morning when I was still in bed because I had a cold. On seeing the message, I felt the cold go away, my nose cleared I guess out of excitement and I jumped out of bed and told my children about the transfers who were very happy as well.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My sons now have a roof over their head as they had previously been asking their friends for a place to sleep. It is the joy of a mother to see their children live well and very happy. Thank you GiveDirectly for bringing joy to our family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I built my sons who did not have a house somewhere they could call their own. I also bought food for my family , and ploughed 1.5 acres of land and planted maize and beans which have sprouted already. I had taken my son for initiation and the transfer helped me buy him clothes during his celebration of passing out.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition has always been to own a cow which will cost me approximately 300 USD. I will use the produce (milk) from the cow for domestic consumption and sell the surplus in a nearby market. Previously two of her going children have dropped out of school due to lack of school fees. At the moment I have 3 who are currently in various Schools, 1 in Primary level, 1 in Secondary and the other one in college. Therefore, my aspiration has always to give them the best education as a parent.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is due to the fact that I spend my entire day working in my garden of 0.8 of an acre where I grow vegetables. Getting home in the evening with enough food to feed my family is something that gives me so much happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is seeing my 2 children dropping out of School due to my inability to pay their fees. If I will be lucky to get the transfer, I will try my best to see my 3 children complete their education to college level.
