How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer since we have adequate milk for consumption and sale at our family. Unlike before when we used to buy relatively inadequate milk for consumption, my family currently enjoys sufficient milk, thus attracting better health. Moreover, we gain significant income from the sale of surplus milk. Overall, I greatly thank GiveDirectly for financial support.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in the way it ensures direct transfer of money from the donor to the recipient through mobile money. This attracts fairness and ensures that most if not all of the transfers land at the recipients. Accordingly, virtually everyone in our village is satisfied since they know that they received all the money that were intended for them. The situation could have been not the same if more intermediaries were used as some of the money could be lost during the transfer process.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent 30000 KES of my second transfer on buying a cow that I am keeping. I chose to increase my herd to attract more milk for consumption and sale. Besides, I used 15000 KES on paying school fees for my sister-in-law who was at secondary school. Still, I purchased 2.5 sacs of maize at 5000 KES for consumption by my family. Finally, I saved the remaining amount for future use.

The biggest difference in my life is the fact that we now have milk produced by the cow we bought and we are not spending a lot of money buying milk anymore.

When I first received the money on 5th July I really felt very happy and thankful to God that what we were promised finally came.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
we spent the money we received in our first transfer in purchasing a lactating cow with a calf, foodstuffs and also started a small shop business which is now operational.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Kshs 110,000 is a very good amount of money! Received this money means I am going stop buying milk from a local trader so as to buy a milking cow of my own. This will immensely reduce on recurrent expenditure from my husband's meager motorcycle taxi earnings. Moreover, I intend to spend a part of the transfer to fence my compound to mitigate a rampant poultry theft in the village. This money is going to change my life for the better.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the afternoon. This is the time I finish up with my farm chores, take lunch and can afford a moment to relax. In fact an afternoon nap.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Early this year there was a severe famine in the community and my family was no exception. The maize we had planted could not make it due to drought. Water for domestic chores was a problem. Life was hard for everybody hence no one would offer casual jobs in exchange for pay. Life was generally tough. To me this is the biggest hardship I've faced in my life.
