How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
As for now,I do not have any new goals.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly changes peoples lives. It has made my life so much better compared to before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my recent transfers on beds and mattresses after sleeping on the earthen floor for many years. The rest of the amount went to paying school fees for my two children as well as new clothes and food for the whole family. Finally, I was able to seek treatment for my son who had broken both his legs. All in all, I feel greatly indebted to Give Directly for the blessing they have been in my life.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I remember I was at home at around 4 pm when I had been visited by my church members for our midweek fellowship. I heard my mobile phone messages ringtone an indication of a new message. I was eager to know the content of the message is since it was unusual to receive messages at that time. I decided to check it, I was very surprised after seeing a Mpesa message showing that I had received my transfer. I was filled with joy for receiving my transfer and thank God for the aid.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now able to meet my family's needs, especially diet without struggling. Previously, I was hustling a lot to upkeep my family of 3 members. I am grateful for the transfer for installing hope in our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent larger part of my transfer to construct a spacious decent shelter for the family. This is because the one I had earlier was very small to full accommodate all the family members. One of my daughter was forced to seek shelter from our neighbor every night after our dinner something that frustrated me. I used KES 35,000 to purchase the required building materials such as iron sheets, building poles. I also used KES 10,500 to purchase 3 goats to boost my livestock rearing a long-term investment for my family of 4. In addition, I used KES 2500 to payoff the fee arrears for my 2 children who are still in lower primary. With the remaining amount, I bought enough food and clothing for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means good education for my children. I have a family of 5 members and my husband died five years ago. I have the burden of raising the family and I am jobless. My daughter dropped out of school when she was in form three one year ago due to school fees. Upon receiving the money, I will enroll my daughter back to school and pay all fees balances of KES 40000 . I will also use KES 10000 to clear fee balances for my three daughters who are in primary school. I plan to use KES 30000 to buy two beds and two mattresses for my family. The remaining KES 30000 will be used to buy food for the family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
On 25/12/2021, my first daughter who was married at Mirihini brought us shopping for Christmas. We took rice and chicken meat. We had last taken such a meal two years ago. The shopping brought happiness in my life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a widow and and I no job. It is hard for me to pay school fees for my children and also buy food for the family. We take one meal per day. This has affected my last born health. He has grown very week. Lack of job is the current challenge I am currently facing.
