My future goal is to boost the cafe business that I started with the transfers from GiveDirectly. The intention is to make it more stable to earn me more income that would comfortably cater to the needs of the family like food as well as educating the children.

In my opinion, Givedirectly did well in sending cash transfers to less fortunate households in the community. The meetings that they conducted before enrollment was very crucial to inform us about the program. It formed the basis for the acceptance since all our questions and concerns were addressed. I do not see anything that it should improve in its processes.

I spent $245 of the transfer to boost my crop and livestock farming by purchasing one ox and 3 goats. I intend to use the oxen to assist me in preparing the farm in time. This will ensure that I can plant crops on the onset of rains resulting in high food production for the family's consumption. The goats are a future investment for the kid's education that I will be able to sell them to pay for their tuition fees. In addition, I used $120 to purchase sufficient food for the family of 5. This is because the charcoal vending job that I was doing could not provide for the family. No the other hand, it was laborious affecting me health-wise always complaining about chest pains. Furthermore, I used $50 to start a small cafe, an alternative source of income for myself which is helping me in feeding the family something I am grateful for.

I operate a local restaurant and that day, I was cleaning utensils around 9:am when I heard a message notification from my phone. After I was done with whatever I was doing, I opened the messager and I was so happy to see that I had received the transfers. I called my husband and informed him about it and from my side, I could tell how we were both excited about it.

I wouldn't have managed to enroll my three children in school if it was not for the transfers. This was an uphill task for us because of our economic capability and we are grateful that we have been able to achieve this great milestone courtesy of the transfers. By God's grace, we were able to take him to local hospitals last year where he was treated and recovered. Unfortunately, we were not able to enroll him back to school because the low wages my husband was earning from manial jobs averaging to KES 500 per week was only enough for basic needs. Similarly, we were able enroll the other two children who had reached school going age. We couldn't have had a better opportunity that this to enroll them to school. I spend KES 12000 to pay enrollment fees and to get them ready for school, KES 31000 to buy two cows and the balance is what I have been spending to buy water which has become scarce and food.
