How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received my transfer in I am now living a happy life after fulfilling my desires. Through the aid, I was able to construct a decent house with my first transfer. In addition, I started livestock keeping which is my reliable source of income for the family. I will no longer have to seek help from my neighbours whenever I face financial crisis. Also, my grandchildren are learning without having their studies cut short due to fee problems.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion,GiveDirectly did well for sending us unconditional cash transfer. These transfers has transformed lives of many households who a living in poverty in my society. I thank GiveDirectly for the program. I do not see anything that it does not do well.

I spent $240 to purchase 1 cow and 3 goats. I had been desiring to own livestock like others in the village but I lacked the money to purchase them. The moment received the I prioritized the purchase since they are so beneficial whenever one face a financial emergency. Furthermore, I bought warm clothes since we experience winter in June and July in our area. In addition, I paid school fees for my grandchildren who had been send home due to lack of fees. Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the transfer notification when I was already in my farm planting. I heard my phone ringing, notifying me of an incoming message. When I checked to confirm who the sender was, I could not believe what I saw! I had received KES 55000 in my Mpesa account from GiveDirectly. I felt happy and exhilarated as I shared the good news with my family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Its been my desire to build a new house since my current house is grass thatched. However, for many years now, I have not not been able to upgrade it at my own cost. Receiving this transfer has uplifted my living standard because I managed to buy enough building materials such as iron sheets and building poles and constructed a new iron roofed house. I feel building this new iron roofed house is the biggest difference in my daily life. It would have taken me a long time to accomplish this dream.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been living in a grass thatched house for years with no plan of upgrading to better house. Futhermore, it was very small and also leaking whenever it rained. When I received my first transfer, I took a bigger percentage of it and bought building materials. I purchased iron sheets, nails and poles for the construction of a new house. I am happy and grateful since my aspiration of building a decent iron roofed house has now been fulfilled by GiveDirectly. In addition to this, I also bought five goats that I am currently keeping in my homestead. I am hoping they will multiply and help me meet future financial needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means building a better house for my family. This has been my ambition for the past 3 years when my house collapsed. I ended up constructing a small structure that has no door and the roof is partially open. This makes it unsafe especially during heavy rainfall as the walls are bent inwards too.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my is in the morning when I wake up to see my family healthy and happy. Being the eldest member, I care about my generation so much that it breaks my heart to see any of them unhappy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is my biggest hardship. I depend on charcoal burning and harvesting aloevera for a living. These jobs are quite energy draining and I am not so productive at my age. The much I earn is around 1200 a month an amount that cannot sustain me fully. It is a normal scenario to go skip meals or even miss food for a whole day.
